UTICA is a feature documentary that captures the complex realities of small-town life highlighting the story of Utica’s agricultural and cultural revitalization to explore larger questions about food justice, community self-sufficiency, and the impact of systemic neglect on rural communities across America.
Over 1,200 Freedmen’s Settlements and Black Towns were established throughout the South and across the nation before and after emancipation to create safer, self-sustaining, and thriving communities. Over the past several decades these communities have endured hardships yet still they persevere.
Black Southern Woman is a multimedia documentary project celebrating the voices and experiences of Black women from the Deep South. Through photography, film, and sound, the project invites audiences into a living archive of Southern womanhood and legacy.
